This dude, David Ray Parker, would kidnap women, tie them to a bondage table and play them audio tapes where he described exactly how he was going to torture them and big chunks of these tapes are transcribed in the book and that is some FUCKED UP stuff. Well, three stars for writing about a very unusual case, and the people and town at the centre. Two stars for the actual writing. If you're looking for a true crime book where almost everybody involved in the story is unhinged, be it news reporter, police or other law enforcement, or friend or relative of a victim or perpetrator, then this is the story for you. Murderers in new mexico – gruesome and grisly true stories of murders in the sand
This is the type of story I though would perfect for Netflix. A warning to readers - this book doesn't hold back from the descriptions of the crimes, however brutal they may be. It's not a book for the faint of heart. From the firstit's obvious that the book is going to be very descriptive.
The chamber of horrors
While the crime is heinous, the overall writing is a little dead in places. I also got the feeling the author embellished a lot, especially around what certain people thought or said. After reading this book, I also looked online for details about this crime, and some of the facts I found online didn't match those in the book.
I'm not sure which is accurate.
Mar 10, L. Penn rated it it was ok. Some people really have no morals, and to enlist or coerce other individuals in to your depravity is reprehensible beyond belief. To not even know how many D. Ray actually killed is even more petrifying. Whatever graves the Elephant Butte Lake decides to reveal some day will be a day when the next set of generations come along.
To understand the helplessness Ray's victims must have suffered inside his meticulously planned and executed 'restraints' is just unimaginable. His childhood of blowing Some people really have no morals, and to enlist or coerce other individuals in to your depravity is reprehensible beyond belief.
His childhood of blowing things up and fantasies about killing to then carry them out, unfathomable. Whatever gene males must have to push that envelope to the extreme is frightening. And for all those who hunt these monsters down, God bless you. One gripe though, I would have appreciated a bigger text as I'm getting on in years and my eyes were straining to read the book. Aug 24, Torgo rated it it was ok. Interesting content, a worth reading if you have an interest in the case.
However, it's quite poorly and blandly written, so it's not really a -turner. Jan 17, Kirsty rated it liked it.
